A handsome early 19th‑century Scottish longcase clock in richly figured mahogany, the dial signed Tait, Peebles. The case is beautifully proportioned, with a long arched trunk door and decorated by delicate stringing, its colour and grain showing the depth and warmth of well‑kept timber. Above, the hood carries three brass finials — the central eagle giving the clock a striking sense of presence and height.

The painted dial is an attractive example of the period, with crisp Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and date dials, and well‑shaped hands. The movement is an 8‑day mechanism, complete with its pair of weights and a wonderfully decorative pendulum. The pendulum bob is beautifully painted with a central star motif surrounded by scrolling foliate decoration in rich tones of gold, green, and red — a charming flourish that adds real character.
