The arched architectural case is adorned with gilt metal decoration and showcases rich colouring and beautiful grain. Its brass 12.5" dial—inscribed H. Pomfritt, 40 Great Ancoats Street, Manchester—is framed by a brass bezel with bevelled-edge glass and features classic Roman numerals along with subsidiary dials. The backplate is signed W&H/SCH/5, denoting its maker's mark.
