Military Campaign Camphor Wood Roll Top Writing Slope SAI1893

Military Campaign Camphor Wood Roll Top Writing Slope SAI1893
An outstanding example of Victorian ingenuity and craftsmanship, this military campaign lap desk is constructed from richly grained camphor wood, its vibrant patination beautifully preserved. The desk is brass-edged for durability, with original flush-mounted campaign handles adding to its authenticity and appeal. Feature a tambour roll-top, which retracts as the lower drawer is opened—an elegant, space-saving mechanism. The interior reveals a series of thoughtfully arranged pigeonholes of various sizes, accompanied by a green baize writing surface that remains in excellent condition. In keeping with the Victorian fascination for hidden details, the box conceals a set of secret drawers, cleverly revealed by activating a small steel pin. Complete with its original working key, this slope is not only highly functional but also deeply evocative of a bygone era of travel and refinement.
