Japanese Carved Bears - SAI4151

Japanese Carved Bears - SAI4151

£525.00

A beautifully carved Japanese wooden bear group, depicting two bears interacting on a rugged, naturalistic base. The dark, polished timber has a rich warmth, and the composition displays wonderfully from every angle. A striking and characterful example of Japanese bear carving, with finely worked fur, expressive faces, and deep chisel marks that highlight the sculptor’s skill.

The carving carries two Japanese inscriptions: one dated 27 June 1968 with the name Ushiba Eiichi, and another reading Made by Yamanaka. These marks provide excellent provenance and firmly place the carving within mid‑20th‑century Japanese craft traditions.
