A quality walnut Davenport by renowned Edinburgh cabinet makers John Taylor & Son. The moulded gallery top lifts to reveal an ebonised pen tray, compartments for stationery, and two ink pots. The original red leather writing surface shows gentle wear, adding charm and authenticity. Beneath the slope are four drawers (two dummy, two functional) with original bun handles. The right side features dovetailed graduated drawers with brass fittings; the left side mirrors the design with false fronts. Fielded panels and turned ringed supports on bun feet complete the base. With wonderful colour and patination, this piece is in excellent condition and ready for use. A fine example from a firm appointed Cabinet-makers to Her Majesty the Queen in 1852.
