A superb Victorian Scottish longcase clock by John McNeish (also recorded as McNeith) of Falkirk, presented in excellent working order. The eight‑day movement sits within an impressive hood featuring a swan‑neck pediment, delicate stringing, and well‑balanced proportions.

The painted dial is richly decorated with four classical female figures in the spandrels, each representing virtues such as Hope, Justice, Peace, or the Arts. The arch displays a finely executed oval scene of a seated classical figure with a lion. The cream dial, with its black Roman numerals, also includes subsidiary seconds and date dials, adding both function and charm.

John McNeish/McNeith is recorded among Falkirk’s early 19th‑century clockmakers, known for their solid craftsmanship, well‑proportioned cases, and decorative Scottish dial painting. Clocks bearing his name are sought after for their quality and strong regional identity.
