A superb Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku), beautifully painted in ink and soft washes of colour. The the painting depicts a classic Sansui (mountain‑and‑water) landscape: mist‑laden peaks rising in layered blues and greys, a waterfall descending into a quiet valley, and three small birds gliding across the lower foreground. A red artist’s seal appears to the upper right, accompanied by flowing calligraphy. The painting is mounted on patterned blue brocade with a cream silk upper and lower section, all in very good condition and ready to hang. The scroll comes complete with a wooden tomobako storage box, adding provenance and protection. A tranquil and elegant work, ideal for bringing a touch of Japanese refinement to any interior — whether displayed alone or as part of a curated wall of scrolls.
